Model 1: Project-Based Learning Experiences

SOAR PBL experiences are offered in six to eight week cycles. Students learn through investigation and seek to respond to an authentic question, problem, or challenge. Rather than the project being a culmination of a particular unit of study, SOAR PBL experiences are the unit itself and are integrated within the curriculum. They include smaller tasks within a larger entrepreneurial project. SOAR's Project-Based Learning experiences conclude in a public exhibition of student work in which students present their projects to an authentic audience.

Why Project-Based Learning

Project-Based Learning experiences are an effective approach in engaging students in learning. When students are invested in a purposeful project, overall engagement and achievement increase. SOAR’s PBL experiences are designed to incorporate multiple curricular areas into one interdisciplinary experience. Naturally, our programs connect with the Language Arts, French, Math, Social Studies, and Science curriculum. SOAR collaborates directly with the classroom teacher in offering the program, supporting them in all aspects of the experience. Project-Based Learning experiences also offer students an opportunity to engage in solving real-world problems and develop essential skills needed to thrive in the 21st-century innovation economy.
