THE STORY OF SOAR

2018

In December 2018, founder Henry Greenberg launches a pilot version of the SOAR program in a Grade 7 French Immersion classroom in Oakville, Ontario. Over the course of three weeks, students create their own toy companies that they pitch to their younger peers in a school showcase event. The pilot program is a success! Kids are engaged and educators are intrigued.

2019

August 30, 2019: SOAR officialy becomes a business and the journey begins.

In the fall of the 2019-2020, Henry brings an extended version of the SOAR project-based learning and design thinking programs to a variety of intermediate classrooms. Things are on an upwards swing!

2020

School programs are running smoothly with more classes participating in SOAR!

March 2020 rolls around and things take an unexpected turn when schools shut down in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Henry swiftly adapts and experiments with various methods of delivering program virtually, including a global online design thinking challenge. In May, Henry decides to launch a virtual summer camp adapting the SOAR in Schools program to an interactive at-home format. After a quick turnaround, the first ever cohort of the SOAR Summer Innovation Camp comes together for a successful June 2020 launch.

2021

As the pandemic continues, SOAR continues to navigate the world of virtual learning!

  • The SOAR in Schools program adapts to meet the needs of virtual classrooms by offering asynchronous Project-Based Learning packages.

  • Season 2 of the SOAR Summer Innovation Camp launches in July 2021, this time serving a greater number of students in Grades 7-12.

  • Guest visitors at the SOAR Summer Innovation Camp come from renowned companies like The Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop, IBM, Disney, and more!

2022

A year of reimagining and reinvention.

  • SOAR explores new opportunities in media creation. Development begins on an exciting new multimedia project coming soon.

  • In-person school workshops return to great success!

  • SOAR begins offering SHSM workshops to Ontario secondary schools.
